YA Theater Production Island X Play X House

Unbound by spatial boundaries, Island X Play X House is an immersive performance that comes alive through direct engagement with its audience.

Once inside, you are free to roam the former grounds of the NTCK in Seogye-dong, where short plays unfold in every corner.

Leave behind your memories of the old theater near Seoul Station.

The moment you step through the gate, you will enter a whole new world!

Five Years in the Making:

A Cross-Cultural Journey with Korean and Indonesian Youth

First developed in 2020 and shared with audiences in 2024, Island X Play X House finally takes the stage in 2025 as a full production.

The work is the culmination of NTCK’s five-year youth theater initiative Research: Asian Youth.

Echoing the exchanges between young people from Korea and Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where stories were shared and connections forged across cultures,

this production invites today’s youth to broaden their horizons and expand their experiences beyond the boundaries of time and space.

Experience this world as an “island”!

Dozens of short plays welcome audiences not only in the theater, but also in courtyards, offices, rooftops, and even restrooms.

From the moment <Island X Play X House> begins, these spaces are transformed into new worlds, each with its own story.

As audiences move freely among them, they become “islands” themselves, collecting and connecting stories along the way.

And where there are islands, there must also be bridges.

The journey as an “island” may not always be easy, but you won’t be traveling alone.

With eight brilliant “bridges” by your side, your voyage will be complete.

Celebrated across genres for their distinctive presence, Gong Ji-su, Na Yoon-hee, Ra So-young, Park Hyun, Jang Seok-hwan, Jang Yo-hun, Jung Da-ham, and Hwang Gyu-chan embody these bridges, giving life to captivating worlds that link one island to another.

Co-written by Heo Sun-hye

Heo Sun-hye explores the space between reality and unreality, rewriting fictional worlds to open up new possibilities. She believes that dreams and imagination are just as much a part of reality, and feels a rush of exhilaration when she connects with something that was once unknowable.

Major Works
Young-ji, Tracker: Bread and Tent, Hamster Murder Case

Co-written by Na Su-min

Na Su-min is drawn to people who become so absorbed in something that they stumble or collide without noticing what lies ahead. She enjoys writing plays that intertwine the ordinary with the fantastical, capturing the misunderstandings and moments of clarity that arise from unusual, unexpected connections.

Major Works
Tractor, 99% Genius Diary, Bang!

Directed by Yoon Hye-jin

Sometimes called “Moo-a” (selflessness), Yoon Hye-jin has dedicated her career to theater while refusing to limit herself to human narratives alone. She persistently asks: Can theater exist without humans at its center? Her work turns to what unfolds between stories rather than within them, embracing the poetic over the explanatory, the peripheral over the central, and the sensory over the rational.
