An Invitation into an Enchanting Sensory World: The Blue Bird

A fantastical adventure in search of the Blue Bird unfolds at the Myeongdong Theater! With nothing but a bare stage, two actors, Yang Jo-ah and Yang Jong Wook, vividly evoke Maurice Maeterlinck’s mysterious worlds through dynamic movement and musical language. This richly expressive performance fills the theater with wonder, blending seamlessly with the audience’s imagination to complete an even more wondrous experience.

A Masterpiece Reimagined as a Provocative One-Person Play: The Fall

Albert Camus’ The Fall, celebrated as his most brilliant and profound masterpiece, is reborn on the stage! Actor Son Sang-kyu takes on the challenge of transforming the original monologue into a powerful one-person play. Fixing his gaze on the audience, he delivers a long, relentless confession, unraveling themes of guilt, repentance, pain, and despair. As the boundaries between stage and audience dissolve, the performance evokes unfamiliar yet resonant sensations.

SYNOPSIS - The Blue Bird

On Christmas Eve, a fairy visits Tyltyl and Mytyl and asks them to find the Blue Bird for her sick daughter. She gives them a magical hat with a diamond that allows them to summon the souls of animals and objects. Together with the souls of water, fire, bread, sugar, a dog, a cat, and light, Tyltyl and Mytyl embark on a journey to find the Blue Bird.

SYNOPSIS - The Fall

Clamence is a successful lawyer in Paris, respected for his moral integrity. One day, however, an incident he dismisses casually completely disrupts his life. The Blue Bird
Original Play by Maurice Maeterlinck

Maurice Maeterlinck was a Belgian poet, playwright, and essayist, widely recognized as a leading figure in the Symbolist movement. Known for his exploration of themes such as silence, death, and anxiety, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911. Maeterlinck developed a form of “theater of the soul,” in line with Symbolist ideals, focusing on realms beyond reality. His works later influenced surrealists, as well as playwrights like Antonin Artaud and Samuel Beckett.

The Fall
Original Novel by Albert Camus

Albert Camus was a French novelist, playwright, and philosopher, renowned for exploring absurdity and defiance within the framework of existentialism. Through his profound examination of the inherent absurdity of human existence, Camus delved into existential themes at the intersection of literature and philosophy. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957, his most famous works include The Stranger and The Plague.
