My Aunt in Texas, returns to Goesan!

“You think she came here to make ends meet? No, she came here to live better-off.”

My aunt went all the way to Texas to follow a man named Richard who she met in town. She dreamed of a life where she gracefully drinks cups of coffee in a beautiful bikini but it turned out her actual life is like…a dried up ear of corn.

36 years later, a woman came to study in Goesan from Kyrgyzstan. She dreamed of returning home as a successful person, but found herself holding a hoe rather than a book. Her life is like…the last crumb of lepyoshka.

Here, a place filled with the sound of wind and the songs of bugs, the lives of the two women unfold like a decalcomania.

A new work of Yun Mi-hyun pierces the audience’s heart with her vivid and lively words

Yun Mi-hyun, the writer of Going out with the Basket, the NTCK play that received the most recommendations in 2017, returns. Under the experienced direction of Choi Yong-hoon, the vivid and sudden lines spoken on the stage cut into the dark side of our society.

This performance is presented and produced based on the work selected by the ASAC Creative Drama Contest of 2017, by the Ansan Arts Center.

"Even though we experience alienation and abuse, the consciousness of this reality has sharpened the people of our society into revealing and ostracizing the perpetrators.” -Commentary-

Playwright

Yun Mi-hyun

Yun made a debut through the Korean Playwrights Association’s drama competition in 2013, and has earned attention thanks to unique narratives that go beyond the conventional grammar of theater. By using realistic expressions and a paradoxical style of drama, she overcomes the depressive self-portrait of society and boldly breaks away from the repetitive and ordinary.
