Richard Ⅱ
  • ByWilliam Shakespeare
  • Translated byKang Tae-kyung
  • Embellished byHan Hyun-chu
  • Directed byFelix Alexa
  • Produced byNTCK

Hailed as one of Shakespeare’s greatest history plays, Richard II contains beautiful monologues and poetic lines. However, it had been rarely performed in Korea until it was staged at Daloreum Theater of the National Theater of Korea under the direction of Romania’s masterful theater director Felix Alexa. In this production, Alexa focused on the monarch’s desperate self-contemplation rather than the power struggle. Richard II played by Kim Su-hyeon delicately expressed his psychosocial changes. The highly imaginative and lyrical stage was further complimented by powerful images, rich music, and various symbolic objects.
